Market Traders

Swanage Market 2020

NOTE – The market is now open, but we are not currently accepting casual traders due to Covid-19.  All traders must apply in advance and have their risk assessment approved before any payment will be taken.

The Swanage Market is operated every Friday from Main Beach car park.

For 2020, Swanage Town Council has brought the operation of the summer market in-house for a trial period, pending a review later in the autumn.

Several changes are to be seen in the operation of the Market for 2020 as follows:

  • We will only allow traders that sell items defined as ‘crafts and produce’, along with charity and community stalls
  • We strongly encourage traders to undertake a pre-approval application process (which includes significantly discounted fees compared to casual day fees)
  • No cash to be taken on the day (credit / debit card payments only)
  • Charities and community groups at no cost although they must be ‘pre-approved’, otherwise they will incur the ‘casual’ rate

How to make an application

Please complete the online application form (link below).

All traders, charities and community groups will require the following documentation. This is required for pre-approved applications as well as casual ‘on the day’ traders.

Pre-approval is only required once for each season unless you start to sell different items or otherwise make a change to your business.

How to make payment

Once you have supplied all relevant documents and been approved by the Town Council, we will contact you by phone to make payment by credit or debit card. We will also be able to accept a BACS payment or cash (but only up to £250) if deposited at the Swanage Information Centre.

Once you have paid you will be provided with a licence which must be provided to an Officer of the Town Council on request. You will be allocated a plot number at this point.

How will it work on the day?

You may turn up from 7.00am and trading may start at 8.00am.

If you are a ‘casual’ trader please seek out the Market Attendant who will check your documentation, take a card payment, and allocate you to a suitable plot. If these conditions are not met, you will be asked to leave.
