Dorset Council – Street Lighting Policy Public Consultation

Proposed changes

Dorset Council is reviewing the street lighting that could be used to light our highway network. This includes the possible benefits and implications associated with moving to a policy of using lower colour temperature light emitting diode (LED) streetlights. It is possible over the next 5 years that around 6000 sodium lights could be replaced (subject to costs), so we are consulting on the approach to take for these new lights.

The potential changes we are consulting on are:

  • Using lower correlated colour temperature (CCT) LEDs in new streetlights for a warmer lighting mix
  • Clarifying the environmental zoning for street lighting
  • Dimming lights

These changes will be considered within the context of the council’s commitment to the Natural Environment, its Climate and Ecological priorities, public health and safety and the ongoing need to reduce costs.

Closing date for responses 4th May 2025

Parents Views on Before and Afterschool Childcare

Are you a parent of a primary school-aged child who wants to win a £50 Amazon voucher for giving your views? Complete this survey about before and after school childcare.

Parents of primary school-aged children should be able to access before and after school childcare from the hours of 8am to 6pm from their local school or childcare provider. We want to find out from parents what type of childcare they need, and if the current childcare they use is meeting their needs.

Dorset Council are providing funding to schools and childcare settings to either create or expand existing childcare to meet the hours of 8am to 6pm.

Why your views matter

The information we collect from you will help Dorset Council, Schools and Childcare settings to shape their offer to meet the needs of its children and parents.

This survey will only take between 5 to 10 minutes to complete and 3 lucky parents will be chosen at random to each win a £50 Amazon voucher.

If you would like to fill out the survey in a different way, like a paper survey, please contact the team using the details in the contact section.

Please note, any data collected follows Dorset Council's privacy policy.

Closing date for responses 30th April 2025.
